Wind energy at ArcelorMittal

More than 80% of the components in a wind turbine and its related infrastructure are made with steel.

ArcelorMittal’s steels have been successfully used in the manufacture of more than 10,000 onshore and offshore wind turbine towers since 2005.

ArcelorMittal produces an extensive portfolio of steels which are used in the major components of a wind farm: foundations, tower, nacelle, generator, gearbox, yaw, pitch, mooring ropes, power cables and fasteners.

XCarb®

Power your projects with steel that reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 85% from cradle-to-gate. Our XCarb® recycled and renewably produced products are EPD-certified and manufactured in Europe, supporting critical projects in the renewable energy sector.

ArcelorMittal Europe - Long Products' offer includes:

Steel sheet piles - smart, resilient, and sustainable foundation solutions for infrastructure
They are ideal for building the quay walls and port facilities that support the logistics of offshore wind farms.

Sheet piles also play a key role in land reclamation projects. They can serve as structural enclosures for artificial islands used in green energy transformation hubs.

Additionally, they are used to create the foundations of wind turbines.

And the XCarb-EcoSheetPiles™ Plus range is made from 100% recycled steel and produced using 100% renewable electricity, reducing the carbon footprint of each project.

Sections and merchant bars

  • Sections and merchant bars for the secondary steel of the tower
  • ArcelorMittal offers a large variety of specific beams suitable for the main frame of tower nacelles and substations.

Bars and Rods (SBQ, Rebars and Wire rods)

  • SBQ (Special Bar Quality) steels for foundations and flanges, connectors and mechanical parts
  • Wire rods for fasteners, bolts, screws
