Here, our secret tester shares the results of his recent blind trials, comparing EstateWIRE against other products. We’ve kept them anonymous because some of the comments are so critical that we didn’t want to embarrass our rivals!
Product 1: Wires under spec; horizontals difficult to tie off. Hard to tension; once tensioned they seemed close to breaking. Not centreless, so the roll snagged and the product “just about stood up”. Our tester judged them second worst of the products.
Product 2: Almost all wires were in spec, it tensioned well, but the deep crimp caused tying off problems due to the gap between the post and the fence. He noted the hard cross wires.
Product 3: Our tester’s concern was the products felt soft – he feared snapping when tying off. He avoids this product for these reasons.
Product 4: Our tester said how terrible this looked in the roll – he was apprehensive about putting it up. He saw the extremely deep crimp and verticals at various angles with a mixture of hard and soft wires. Once up and tensioned a few times it was ‘acceptable’ – though our tester thought that was down to pot luck.
Product 5: Inconsistent quality of wires within one fence can make installation and tensioning difficult and irregular.
Product 5: Oh dear. “Where to start?” asked a perplexed champion. It’s not centreless, so it snagged ‘horribly‘. Normally he would send it back.
Heavy crimp at the top but not the bottom; line wires shorter at the bottom; the tensioned fence was not square; bottom selvedge wire was almost high tensile, so tying off by hand was difficult; the top selvedge was softer so the fence was out of square. Does not comply to British Standard. Had to be taken down.
Product 6: EstateWIRE: the easiest fence to work with and my preferred choice out of all the products, he said.
Our testing champion was impressed with the ease of use and the product being ‘in spec‘ throughout, giving him the high quality, reliability and consistency he was seeking.
